Formed in September 1994, the NTU String Orchestra was first created as a platform for string musicians to get together and display their talent under the care of the NTU Cultural Activities Club. The orchestra plays a broad spectrum of music, ranging from classical to contemporary works as well as excerpts from musicals. Our first public concert, Journey '05, was held to mark the 10 year journey of the club from a String Ensemble to a first-rate String Orchestra. We played to a full house that thoroughly enjoyed our interpretation of evergreen favorites from the classics. This was followed by other concerts Journey '06, a celebration of Mozart's legacy, Adventures on Earth, an ambitious collaboration with the New Festival Orchestra featuring the movie music of John Williams, Journey '07, showcasing works from the Romantic Period and more recently Journey '08 and '09 , performing repertoire from the Baroque and early Classical periods to 20th century music. We are confident that we will reach new heights under the baton of our new conductor, Mr Gerard Chia.
