Need a fun and hands-on activity to while away some time? Baking could be the perfect fit! Being able to make delicious food for your loved ones and yourself, getting to control what goes into your bakes and best of all, being able to smell those delicious smells wafting out of the oven? 1. Palate Sensations Cooking School —Various baking classes
Palate Sensations has a wide array of baking classes on offer that you’d totally be spoilt for choice! From dim sum and macarons to chocolates and European style breads, you’re bound to find something that catches your interest. Classes will be taught in their spacious open concept kitchen furnished with both domestic and commercial equipment, either by experienced guest chefs or resident chefs.
Menu: Breads, cakes, chocolates, Western and Asian pastries, festive bakes (CNY, Mid-autumn festival, etc.)
Duration: Typically 1-2 sessions long

2. RedMan—Various baking classes
Owned by Phoon Huat, RedMan surely wouldn’t be unfamiliar to locals. Apart from selling go-to baking ingredients like food colouring and flavourings, RedMan also conducts affordable baking sessions on the regular at an affordable price at their studios (see below), located at Sims Lane, The Star Vista and Serangoon. Items that have been made include black forest cake, sourdough bread, croissants and bagels.

3. ABC Cooking Studio—Trial Baking lesson
ABC Cooking Studio hails from Japan, and first opened branches here in 2018. Beginners are welcome in their classes, which are kept small (4 per class!) so you’ll have ample guidance. You’ll also get to bring the recipe home in an easy to understand format. The studio offers a membership and class package, but if you’re not keen on going for so many classes (options include Mont Blanc cakes and Pizza twists), you can try out their trial lessons first!

4. BakeFresh Studio — 3D Novelty Agar Agar Cake
BakeFresh Studio is located at Tanjong Pagar Plaza, and if you like your bakes cute you’re in for a treat! Their 3D Novelty Agar Agar Cake course is taught by Alice Teo, who has over a decade of experience in themed agar agar cakes. Participants will make a 3D Tsum Tsum themed cake with 4-5 characters and also learn Chendol Agar Agar as a bonus. A complimentary Agar Agar mould will be given.
Other interesting classes include Cartoon Butter Cookies, 3D Art Floral Jelly Cake, and Pandan Gula Melaka cake.

5. JusBaking – Double Tea Cakes
If you’re a complete beginner to baking, consider JusBaking’s Double Tea Cakes class where you’ll learn how to bake banana sponge cake and rich butter cake. The coach, Justina, will cover some baking fundamentals during the class, like common problems that occur in cakes and proper mixing methods. She will also provide after-class support and a copy of the recipe to take home (along with your baked goodies, of course).

6. Temasek Polytechnic – Fundamentals of Baking
Take your baking to the next level by learning some baking science! This course, held in Temasek Culinary Academy, will take you through the history of artisan breads, basic baking science, the functionality of baking ingredients and the cultivation of live yeast cultures. The hands-on practice will cover 4 recipes: ciabatta, sweet buns, sourdough, and French baguettes. Participants who meet 75% of the required course attendance will be issued with a Certificate of Performance.

7. Grá Baking Academy – Swiss Rolls Baking and Decoration course
If you’ll like a cozy atmosphere during your baking class, and cute baked goods to take home, consider the Swiss Roll class at Grá Baking Academy! Lessons are conducted in a private kitchen with small class sizes, and everything taught will be able to be replicated at home. Participants will learn how to bake 3 kinds of swiss rolls: strawberry, salted caramel chocolate, and printed swiss rolls. You will also be awarded a Certificate of Participation.

8. Buonissimo Culinary School – Various Baking classes
Buonissimo Culinary School teaches themed classes with 3 course menus, each revolving around an exotic international cuisine. That’s not to say that they don’t offer baking-focused classes, however! Some options you can explore include (depending on schedule) a paleo desserts class and a French crossiants class. Class sizes are kept modest at no more than 15 students and the resident chef, Jes, completed her formal Pastry Chef training at Chef Academy in Umbria, Italy.

9. Bakers Brew Studio – Various Baking classes
Try not to salivate while choosing a (cake) class on the Baker’s Brew site – everything looks so delicious and pretty that you’d want to select them all. Offering interesting options like yuzu genmaicha cake, purple sweet potato soy milk cake and triple citrus cake, choose from novice to advanced level and then get down to baking! Baker’s Brew also operates a café at their Paragon branch, so you can head on in and get a slice of cake or two as a taste test if that’s your kinda thing.
